This streamlined logic was also applied to all interior and exterior detailing so that the house will read as a whole when complete, unlike it does now. We also developed a new garage structure, which is being considered for a future phase. We carried the same design sensibility developed for the house to the garage. In order to lessen the new structures visual impact on the backyard, we introduced a plant-covered wall, which camouflages the lower part of the structure.Construction is scheduled for completion early summer, 2012.

Our approach integrates a contemporary aesthetic and material palette that compliments the Chalet styled A frame home. We reconfigured the interior layout which now features an expanded master and junior suite as well as a new kitchen, connecting staircase and study loft. These combined to create an uncluttered backdrop from which our clients can enjoy their beautiful view of Lake Tahoe.Hide Info

InfoHow we function in our kitchens today is very different than how we did decades ago. Our task on this project was to rethink a cluttered kitchen built in the 1950’s to allow for communal cooking and for casual dining experiences without going beyond the existing building envelope. By removing several small closets, rethinking the circulation sequence, and developing an efficient storage wall we were able to give our client more storage area than before and a simplified, linear space that feels twice as large as it did. Making an existing bay window larger was all that was needed to bring in more light and make the space feel open.Hide Info

InfoWithin the next several months, all the bathrooms in this Hancock Park Tudor home will have been re-envisioned. The original house was built in the 1920’s and the last time the bathrooms were upgraded could have been the late 1950’s. The current owners challenged us to come up with four bathroom schemes that felt modern while respecting the homes original and completely intact Tudor material palette and detailing.During Phase One we were able to develop a larger Master Bathroom by transforming an existing closet into a wet room while additional H.P.O.Z. approved square footage was utilized as a bay window that features a new infinity tub. A generous his and hers dressing room replaces multiple smaller closets in the Master Suite. All bathrooms will feature differing exotic quartzite’s from South America and Pakistan, some of which are available in this country for the first time. Hide Info

InfoOur client asked us to develop a new patio and landscape plan for his 1930’s home in Los Feliz. With commanding views of Pasadena and Glendale beyond, the previous one level patio didn’t take advantage of the many aspects of the hillside below and lumped all outdoor functions together in one small area. Our solution utilizes multiple patio levels to designate an outdoor living, dining, and lounge area. Underneath the upper patio we carved away part of the hillside to create a “grotto” where more formal dining experiences can happen adjacent to the water feature.This represents the first phase of work. The second phase will see the addition of a quiet meditation area and terracing of the hillside for more functional gardening.Hide Info

We were awarded the project, and set out to develop a street marker that references key historic architectural elements while incorporating information about each particular site. The resulting design introduced a layered human-scaled object to our city streets that is simultaneously inviting and virtually indestructible.With a very tight budget and the generous donation of time by several civic entities, Angels Walk LA continues to grow and educate people throughout the city. Angels Walk Markers can be found throughout the neighborhoods of Bunker Hill, Union Station, Hollywood, Chinatown, Figueroa and Wilshire Boulevard, as well as San Pedro. Future walks include North Hollywood, Crenshaw, and Highland Park neighborhoods.Hide Info$(".project_title").addClass("angel");

We worked closely with Chef Tara Thomas, inspired by the images of fine dining cars on historic trains and the interiors of Los Angeles Union Station. The result is a luxurious dining experience offering an interior that is both contemporary and sympathetic to its historic context. A graphics program and landscape plan for the adjacent south courtyard was also developed during the overall design process to ensure project cohesiveness.Hide Info
